renaissance, n. [F., fr. renaitre, to be born again.]
1. A new birth or revival.
2. Any period similarly characterized by vigorous activity along literary, artistic, or other lines.*

*Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary.

The Renaissance Society was founded long before the so-called 'Renaissance' period of the 14th-16th centuries. It is a state of mind.

How do I join this so-called 'Renaissance Society'?

You're here: you've joined. There's no escape.

You are invited to come in and browse around and make yourself at home. This is like an 'idea' store where you can try one on and see how it fits. Tell a friend.
Here you will find the finest, most important, most powerful and most beautiful thoughts that have ever come down the pike. Yet you will find them neither revolutionary nor archaic.

The only problem is, if  you already know it all, this may not be the place for you.

OTOH, if you can loosen up, keep an open mind, allow for a little introspection and let yourself enjoy the gems of wisdom presented here, maybe some of it will stick.

"Right on!" is the usual response--along with a simple recognition that our ancestors weren't idiots and might have learned some things we need to know.
These thoughts have shaped the world we live in right now. Or, rather, they could have shaped the world we live in right now...

Maybe after you've tarried here a while a few boulders of obstinacy will have been dislodged, or a few questions answered, or a few fears lifted, or a few hopes reinvigorated. That's the idea.

A horizon expanded? Not out of the question.

Obviously, we have more work to do. We can do better. We can start here because--again--our thoughts shape our lives and our thoughts shape our world.
Like they all say, but few mean it: This is your site, too. At the bottom of every page is a link to Scribe so you can pour out your comments, suggestions, etc. Who knows, we might just end up with something important.

Bon voyage!
